Welcome to the Pops

Kimhead

Hello there!

This is your conductor, Kim, and welcome to our first season as your California Pops Orchestra. With a bigger, better and more fun than ever during this Season Finale show this June 1st!

Closing out the season, by special request and special arrangement we're bringing you a whole show from the personal library of one of America's greatest film composers, Henry Mancini. From Breakfast at Tiffanys and Peter Gunn to Victor/Victoria and The Great Race.

I can't wait and I hope you can't either. It's great to see you again and we look forward to "making beautiful music together."

See you at the show!

Kim

Summer's Big News!

Your orchestra had the great honor and pleasure to work with Broadway and film star Carol Channing for our special Fourth of July show. You can't imagine how hard it is to play trumpet or clarinet when your smiling so big!

Miss Channing delighted the audience (and us!) with boffo performances of her signature hits while dressed for the holiday in red, white and blue! Yes, your conductor was on Cloud 9 and hasn't landed yet!

Beautiful and witty. Charming and funny. A real, true star. With love and admiration we look forward to another wonderful show with Miss Channing.

Holiday Children

Children are particularly delighted to be included in the Pops fun, especially on the Holidays!

Give them an experience they will never forget!

The POPS Experience
Brass

The California Pops Orchestra is the West Coast's only exclusively Pops orchestra.

You can count on CPOs' 60 plus musicians, featured singers and guest artists to bring you lively shows with selections from the full range of the popular music repertoire. From Broadway, musicals, television and the movies to jazz, rock, light classics, and big band. We do it all.

This popular music is scored for a unique instrumentation not typically found in symphony orchestras. Don't be surprised if you see flugelhorns, saxes, harmonicas, congas, lassos, theramins and other much more.

Holiday

Playing popular music versus the "classical" repertoire is irresistible to the Pops performers. Today this volunteer group includes musicians from distinguished Conservatories including Oberlin, Julliard and the Eastman School of Music. Creative individuals from all sectors of society are attracted to the Pops. This diversity in background makes the Pops a delight to play with and a never-ending source of ideas, inspiration and humor.
